Similarities Between Christianity And Islam - 920 Words

Two men, from two distinct societies, one born from a virgin, thought to be the Messiah and the other as a messenger from Allah. Christians believe Jesus was the ultimate sacrifice; their savior and redeemer. Although there were many conflicts in the development of the Christian faith, Christianity is the world’s largest religion. Islam was founded by Muhammad, a caravan trader from the ruling clan in Mecca. To Muslims, he is the human prophet of the god Allah. It may be very controversial, but it is believed that God and Allah are one. The Christian bible depicts God in many different forms, such as omnipotent and omnipresent. Saint Augustine, the author of The Confessions, described God in a very similar way. The Confessions narrates the story of how Augustine converted and his struggles to find his faith. As Augustine grew older, both in age and in faith, he searched for the truth. He concludes that God is The Truth, the ultimate truth (Augustine 48). Augustine says that God provides perpetual truth and that He is incorruptible. In a similar manner, Augustine determines that â€Å"wisdom resides† in God alone (Augustine 46). Theology for Vladimir Lossky and Gilkey - MyAssignmenthelp.com

Question: Discuss about theTheologyfor Vladimir Lossky and Langdon Gilkey. Answer: Introduction Within the area of evolution in the Christian theology, the major conflicts centers around the Christian doctrine of sin. The traditional formula of this doctrine has evolved through various claims and addressed different dimensions. The famous theologian Vladimir Lossky has evolved his ideas of the Christian traditions and had argued that the traditional theologians in the orthodox era had preserved the mystical dimensions of theology in an integrated method[1]. Whereas Langdon Gilkey has more focused on the modern interpretation of the traditional reformation and emphasized the social and individual self delusion and the estrangement. This essay focuses on the comparison and contrast of the both the ideas of the theologians, especially on the basis of their famous writings. Discussion Vladimir Lossky has especially used the term mystical theology in describing the traditional theological traditions of the orthodox churches. However, this term was not clearly defined in his book The Nature of Eastern Orthodox Theology. This book was not really about the mysticism of the Christianity; rather it does not include any kind of vision or the mystical experiences. This book mostly speaks about the conventional account of the Christian doctrine, the Incarnation, the Trinity, the life of Church and the mission of the Holy Spirits. The book was a quite confusing as the author himself do not sick to his idea of God what he explained in the beginning of the book[2]. His ideas regarding Trinity of love, Devine mysteries portray a different orientation to the ideas of mysticism that are actually associated with the Western idea of mysticism. It was rooted in the life of church, yet it is not individualistic and indifferent to the hierarchy and the sacraments. On the other hand, Langdon Gillkey talks about the doctrine of the original sin and the choices for existence that an individual faces each day. He was more concerned about the reformation ideas of the Christianity. He deals more with the Protestant view of the Christianity and unlike Vladimir Lossky he emphasized more on the notions of communion and jeopardized the liberty of individual behavior[3]. According to Gilkey, the idea of Catholicism deals with "a remarkable sense of humanity and grace in the communal life of Catholics. ... Consequently the love of life, the appreciation of the body in the senses, of joy and celebration, the tolerance of the sinner, these natural, worldly, and 'human' virtues are far more clearly and universally embodied in Catholics and Catholic life than in Protestants and Protestantism."[4]. Gillkey suggested the Catholic sacra-mentality or the principles might provide a more sacred entrance to the new Christian tradition which will be relative with the contemporary existence of men. Conclusion In conclusion it can be said that, where Vladimir Lossky more emphasized the conventional ideas of the Christian doctrine, Langdon Gillkey had put more emphasis on the present scenario and the contemporary idea of the Christianity. Gillkey has pointed out the views about the liberal concepts of the religion and Losskey on the other hand emphasized the traditional views about it. Reference List Baker, Matthew. He affirms that the concept helps to determine the amount that one will earn in the future.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Time Value of Money specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More This concept results from the existence of charges due to the use of other people money. There are different sections under time value of money. According to Kuhlemeyer (2004), the concept of simple interest, compound interest, compounding and discounting are used to assess the time value of money. The process of growing money from its present value to its future value at a given duration and interest rate is known as compounding. Discounting is the process o f calculating how much future value of money equal to at present. Decisions that utilized the concept of time value of money The instance was when one of my business partners owed me money which I had lent to him as a loan. The person was reluctant to repay the money, and I took him to a law court. After the careful analysis of the evidence that I presented, the case was ruled in my favor and the judgment specified that the loan should be repaid to me. I further made a request that the borrower should not repay the exact amount that I lent. In that instance, I was claiming that the amount I lent should be repaid with an interest. An agreement had to be entered to determine the amount of interest that was payable to me. The rate of interest was determined by considering the prevailing economic conditions, and it was determined as the prevailing market interest rate at that time. Compounding was done on the amount that I had lent out using the market rate over the duration of time the person held my money. As a result, the amount of money that I received increased tremendously. Computation was done using the future value annuity factor, considering that variables like principal, interest rate and duration were known. Having applied the concept of time value money, I was able to obtain extra income from that transaction. If I had claimed the original amount I had lent out, I would have obtained relatively less.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Another instance where the concept of time value of money was applied was during a rotary competition in my home country. The winners were to be awarded a total of half a million shillings. It happened that I was declared a winner among other people. As the winner claimed their money, I was reluctant since I had a decision to grow the money so that it could increase. An agreement was entered between the rotary commit tee and me so that they could be paying me as an annuity at the end of every month. This was advantageous move as the money was earning me interest at the prevailing interest rate. The compounding formula was applied to determine the amount at the end of every month. If I had claimed the money as a lump sum, then I could have obtained a lesser amount than what I finally got. Reference List Kuhlemeyer, A. (2004). Fundamentals of financial management.
